“We have many happy memories on this campus, from kids learning to ride their bikes around the Parade Field to middle and high school graduations. We are looking forward to having many more!”
- Mindy Ray
Dan and Mindy Ray arrived on campus in 2001 with three young children in tow – Ellie ’14, Tim ’17, and Leah ’19. They came from Annapolis, Maryland (Dan is a U.S. Navy officer) and settled into their new home in Whipple. Dan and Mindy are both from Mason City, Iowa so the new teaching job at SSM put them in closer proximity to happy grandparents. Dan joined the Science Department and is now Chair.
Soon enough, there were two more Ray girls – Hannah ’21 (now in 8th grade) and Claire, a current fourth grader awaiting her turn to join her siblings at SSM. Ellie is attending Boston College and Tim will graduate next spring. The family of seven outgrew their Whipple residence and now live in the West Arch House.
Several years ago, Mindy, who has a doctorate in Nutrition and Physiology, joined the science faculty part-time teaching Anatomy and Physiology.
Mindy describes what SSM has meant to their family. “When we left the Navy we were intentionally looking for a place with a sense of community, where we could combine our vocation, family life, and service. While life at a fast-paced boarding school is challenging, we have found the reward to be lasting friendships with other community members and their families as well as raising our kids in a beautiful setting. We have many happy memories on this campus, from kids learning to ride their bikes around the Parade Field to middle and high school graduations. We are looking forward to having many more!”
With six family members involved in the School – and soon to be seven – the Rays are ALL IN at SSM!
