The U17 and U18 girls’ soccer teams traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina December 4 – 9 to participate in the CASL College Cup Showcase.
Director of Girls Soccer and Head Coach of the U18 team, Mika Elovaara had the following to say, “The U18s team played three very competitive games in the highest bracket of the showcase, all against State Cup Champions or Finalists (IL, FL and SC) and one against a national Top 20 team and finished with one win and two losses. Our girls received compliments for their style of play and attracted a lot of interest from college coaches around the nation. The level of competition was as challenging as we expected and we are looking forward to building on the experience as we continue our season.”
Head Coach of the U17 team, Joe DeMay said, “Overall the weekend was very positive for our team. We received incredible feedback from college coaches about our players and how they played the game. One coach told us Shattuck was the talk of the tournament among the college coaches so that’s obviously great to hear and reinforces that our philosophy and way of working is creating success. The team played very well despite some pretty awful field conditions all weekend. While we had the opportunity to go 3-0 on the weekend, performances in showcase events like this are equally important to the result so (Assistant Coach) Sarah and I are really pleased because we played brilliantly in all three games.”
The Showcase coincides with the NCAA Division I Final Four Women’s Soccer Tournament and provided the SSM teams a chance to watch. They witnessed SSM alum Chelsea Stewart ’08 help capture UCLA’s first ever women’s soccer national championship!
