Weekend Review: April 13th-15th
This past weekend all of the Shattuck teams were in league play against tough competition and all came out feeling good about the results that they picked up. Both the girls U18 and the boys U16DA went 2-0 on the weekend, the boys U18DA went 1-1, and the boys U18YS went 1-1-1 in their MRL games . Girls U18 The girls U18 team went into the weekend with many players unavailable – everything from illness, college visits, and concussions slowed the squad on the weekend. The rest of the team had to pick up the slack, which allowed for other players to step up and produce for the team. Friday night the girls U18 team went down 0-1 to Dakota Rev in the 16 th minute from a corner. They battled back and controlled the game, but didn’t equalize until just before half-time. The coaching staff made several changes at half-time and the team came out playing very well. Shattuck scored three unanswered goals to win 4-1. Goals from: (2) Powell, Moss, Patterson . Saturday, 4/14 with only about 17 hours to recover the Shattuck squad played a fresh Eagan team. The teams went in at half-time 0-0. Again the coaching staff made a few substitutions at halftime, which seemed to pay off as the Shattuck girls came out in the second half to win 3-0. Goals from: Fredette, Patterson, Powell . Boys U16DA 1-0 win vs. Sporting KC Steve Eneme scored in the 20 th minute off a cross from Corey Sauerwine. The U16 boys controlled much of the first half. The second half was a grind with the Sporting KC squad pressing to score the equalizing goal. The Shattuck boys fought hard and defended well to finish the game with the 1-0 win. 1-0 win vs. Colorado Rapids A repeat of the day before, Steve Eneme scored in the 24 th minute off a corner. Rapids played low pressure allowing the U16 team possession for most of the match. The play of the game came from Corey Cadeau’s goal line bicycle kick clearence that landed him tangled in the net and saving a goal for his team. The U16DA team sits in 1st place in their division with the St. Louis team’s coming to Faribault this coming weekend. Boys U18DA 2-0 win vs. Sporting KC The 1 st goal came from a cross by Pat Barnes which Mike Bajza scored in the 43 rd minute…Shattuck gained momentum from that goal going into halftime. Eddosa Muhammad came on as a sub in the 63 rd minute and provided a spark off the bench for the U18DA team… Muhammad took a shot from a tough angle which ricocheted off a defender and Francisco Narbon first timed a shot back on goal from the far place. Narbon’s goal gave Shattuck a 2-0 lead which is how the game ended. Christian Foust recorded the shutout on the day. 1-1 tie vs. Colorado Rapids The Rapids came into the game 7-0-3 and atop the league standings. They were a tough opponent and the game was scoreless in the 1 st half. The Rapids got on the board first with a goal in the 58 th minute. Andrew Moullin was fouled from 25 yards out and John Lujano curled a cross into the area which Blake Jones was able to get his header on goal to tie the game in the 75 th minute. For the last 15 minutes Shattuck put the Rapids back line under a lot of pressure, but unfortunate they Shattuck was unable to get the go ahead goal. The U18DA team will play the same schedule as the U16DA team this coming weekend. Boys U18YS 1-1 tie vs. Blast (MRL game) In an evening game in Indianapolis, Indiana the boys U18YS team played their first MRL game of the spring season. After going down 0-1 early in the first half, the team showed grit and determination as they fought back in the second half to tie the game on an Emil Gonsalvez goal. 4-3 win vs. CUP (MRL game) Without much rest the U18YS team came back the next morning to explode with four goals in the first half. With a formation change to deal with CUP’s pace and size, the Shattuck squad possessed the ball for long periods in the first half and attacked as a group. Nate Dauphin (2), Neal Usry, and Emil Gonsalvez got on the scorers sheet for the day and led Shattuck into the half up 4-2. The second half was a different story as the U18YS squad played in their defensive half for long stretches. A few big saves from Adam Prevost and a little help from the crossbar saw the Shattuck team finish the game with a 4-3 victory. 1-3 loss vs. Ajax (MRL game) After rainy conditions the previous night and wind gust up to 35mph, the field and weather conditions played a large role in the outcome of the game. On the third game of the weekend, many of the players were running on heavy legs after playing long minutes. Controlling a lot possession in the first half, Shattuck finally got on the board from another goal from Emil Gonsalvez late in the first half. Coming out of halftime up 1-0 and playing against the wind, the U18YS team struggled to defend Ajax coming at them with pace. With a steady dose of crosses and long balls, Ajax found the back of the next on three different occasions to win the game 1-3. Next up for the U18YS team is their trip to Rockford, IL to take on three other MRL opponents in two weekends.

U18YS Finish Weekend on a High Note
The U18YS team comes home from the CASL Showcase in North Carolina with a win and two loses. The squad learned a lot from the weekend playing in an older U19 age group. The boys dropped the first two games against SAC Premier and Dixie Lions Athletic, but finished the weekend with a win against host CASL Elite. On Friday the boys took on SAC Premier out of Maryland. Right off the bat the game was not in the sabres favor. They had three starters go down with injuries in the first half. They snuck out of the first half only being down 1-0. The second half was a different story when SAC capitalized on three quality chances, finishing the game 4-0. The next morning, the sabres took on Dixie Lions Athletic out of Canada. Playing in the U19 division, the sabres were clearly the younger team according to size. The Canadian team came out strong, but the Shattuck players were up for the challenge. Dixie Lions scored right before halftime off of a corner kick. With the sabres not finding many chances in the second half, that is how the game ended at 1-0 in favor of Dixie Lions Athletics. Sunday ended up being the best day for the Shattuck St. Mary’s team so they continued to get stronger throughout the weekend. They took on a CASL Elite team out of North Carolina, and the host’s of the showcase. The game was evenly matched from the start, but the sabres had more of the ball and better chances on goal. Late in the second half, with four minutes left, top goal scorer, Neal Usry came up big for the sabres, slotting home a through ball from newcomer Geoffrey Dee . Next up for the U18YS team is the Shattuck St. Mary’s College Showcase in Faribault, MN.
