2026-27 Course Guide
Academic Requirements
Each student at Shattuck St. Mary’s must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 academic courses each semester. Students may achieve 5 courses by doubling in a department with the approval of the chair of the doubled department. Any exception to this policy must be approved by the Director of Studies.
Diploma Requirements
Students are required to take a minimum of 20 credits during the regular academic program. One-semester courses receive 0.5 credit and year-long courses receive 1 credit. The 20 credits must satisfy the specific requirements described below:
● English: 4 credits; students must be enrolled in English each semester
● History: 3 credits, including 1 credit of United States History or Advanced United States History
● Mathematics: 3 credits, including a minimum of 1 credit each in Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry or courses advanced beyond these levels; students must be enrolled in Mathematics each semester
● Performing and Visual Arts: 2 credits, with 0.5 credits earned for every year of enrollment
● Science: 3 credits, including 1 credit in Biology and 1 credit in either Chemistry or Physics
● World Language: 3 credits in the same language for 3 consecutive years during grades 9-12
● Electives: 2 additional elective credits from any department
