Summer is a great time to read! SSM students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to continue their good reading habits while enjoying summer. Treat yourself to some good books this summer!
The SSM Summer Reading Lists are mostly comprised of contemporary young adult titles (both fiction and nonfiction). The lists include many of the latest award winners and multiple star-reviewed titles. Students don’t have to limit their choices to the SSM lists, however. If you’re looking for one of the classic, landmark works, check out the many books on these other lists.
The Greatest Books – generated from 107 “best of” lists from a variety of great sources. Separate lists for Fiction and Nonfiction are provided.
The Great American Read - An eight-part (PBS) series that explores and celebrates the power of reading, told through the prism of America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey).
Many of the books on the SSM Summer Reading Lists are available in the SSM eBook collection. EBooks are highlighted on the summer reading lists and directions on checking out and downloading eBooks are provided at the end of the list.
The summer reading requirements for Shattuck-St. Mary’s School are as follows:
- Middle School Students (Grades 6-9) will read two choice books.
- Upper School Students (Grades 10-12 and Post Graduates) will read three choice books.
- Students with assigned summer books for Advanced Placement (AP) classes and Advanced World Lit may count them as part of their three choice book requirement. (Note: Not all AP classes have an assigned book to read.)
- The Summer Reading form issued with Health and Permission forms needs to be submitted with the titles of the books read by the student by mid-August.
