As part of the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Boys Soccer Center of Excellence, the Boys U19 soccer team is a member of the MLS NEXT elite youth development platform. The team competes in 40-50 games per year including regional and national showcases and provides nearly double the training hours, games, and showcase opportunities than most programs with the added benefit of being uniquely built into the demanding academic schedule of a college prep school.
The program has participated in five national championships and is ranked as one of the top high schools in the country to place players in Division I college soccer programs. SSM has placed an impressive 99 percent of its players in collegiate soccer programs and has contributed two players to the Men’s National Team, eleven players to professional teams, thirteen players to the Youth National Team, and two players to the Futsal National Team.
Student-athletes train daily with competition on weekends, afternoons, or evenings and each participates in a year-round strength and conditioning program. Players have access to three full-sized soccer fields (one indoor synthetic turf, one outdoor synthetic turf, and one natural grass), a brand new 10,500 sq. foot weight training and conditioning facility, video room for team and individual analysis, as well as an athletic training room providing advanced aquatic therapy and full-time athletic training staff.

I joined Shattuck-St. Mary's School as the Director of Boys Soccer in November of 2016, arriving from Colorado where I served as the Director of the Senior Academy for the Colorado Rush. Previously I spent twenty years coaching at the collegiate level, seventeen years of which I was at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, which also provided opportunities to coach in the USL, work with Region IV ODP as a head coach, and come alongside the local club, Spokane Shadow, as their Director. This soccer coaching journey has taken place over four different decades and has taught me many things, most of which I would not have predicted as I ended my collegiate playing career at Belhaven College.
I entered into the coaching profession as a 22-year-old, mostly because I wanted to continue to be in and around this great game, and I wanted to keep competing. Now, a few decades later, I still carry those traits but I now see the additional, greater value of being able to come alongside young people to help support, guide, mentor, and lead them along their life's journey, teaching them that all they have to be is themselves, to do their very best, and to give what they have to others. This is what will bring lasting joy, and this is what will bring meaning to their commitment and drive to play soccer. This is also what brings purpose and joy to my coaching, leading, and directing.
SSM allows this to come to the forefront each and every day. I have earned my master's degree (Eastern Washington University, 1992). I have earned my USSF "A" License (1996). I have earned my USSF Academy Director's License (2018). Each has certainly helped me along my coaching journey, but not near as much as the players and coaching colleagues I have met along the way. And, certainly not as much as my wife, three sons and two grandchildren continue to help and teach me each day.

I joined Shattuck-St-Mary’s as an assistant coach in September 2024, bringing with me a wealth of experience as a former professional soccer player and NCAA D2 college coach. I also founded Community First Soccer, a non-profit organization dedicated to making soccer accessible to all through free camps and college showcases.
As a collegiate athlete at Saint Martin’s University (NCAA D2), I set the school record for most assists and currently hold the joint record for the most assists in the GNAC league's history. After my college career, I played professionally for Deportivo Dongu in Mexico's Liga Premier 2A, where I gained invaluable experience playing against top teams, including Liga MX squads. My journey then took me to Tacoma, WA, where I joined the professional indoor team, the Tacoma Stars in the MASL.
I began my coaching career in 2023 at Saint Martin’s University after returning from Mexico. Coaching has always been a passion of mine, even during my professional playing days. My goal is to create a positive environment where players not only develop their soccer skills but also grow as individuals. I am excited to share the knowledge I’ve gained both on and off the field, guiding young athletes through their soccer journeys, and helping them achieve their dreams, just as I did.
