The morning of community service had been planned for weeks, but in the aftermath of Thursday evening’s storms and tornadic activity, Shattuck-St. Mary’s community of students, teachers, staff, and trustees added debris pick-up to their list of activities. On September 21, more than 500 volunteers from Shattuck-St. Mary’s spread throughout Faribault for a morning of helpful service. Groups picked up debris and tree limbs, stenciled reminders in front of storm drains, cleaned and organized at Ruth’s House, packaged meals at Jesus Food, spread rubber mulch at Faribault Lutheran School, and helped out at Ruf Acres Farm, among many other activities. In total, about 20 organizations had Shattuck-St. Mary’s volunteers lending a hand during the School’s eighth annual Hands Across Faribault.
