In Netflix’s newest original mystery movie, Enola Holmes, we follow young Enola Holmes, younger sister to renowned detective Sherlock Holmes, in her quest to find her missing mother while proving that you don’t have to conform to social norms to be successful. Originally meant to be shown on the big screen, Warner Bros. Studios eventually ended up selling the movie to Netflix where it was finally released on September 23.
The cast of Enola Holmes is second to none, casting big name actors like Henry Cavill (Superman), Helena Bonham Carter (Les Misérables and Fight Club ), Sam Claflin (Hunger Games) but gave the main roles to up-and-coming actors Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) and Louis Partridge (Medici).
I would recommend this movie for anyone who likes a lighthearted mystery movie with a few twists and turns. Throughout the movie her main case is to find her missing mother, but as she is hot on her mother’s trail, she stumbles into the middle of a royal murder plot. Within the movie there are a plethora of 4th-wall breaks similar to most other Sherlock Holmes movies as well as the classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. It also reminds me of some other mystery comedy movies such as Detective Pikachu and Gamenight.
