June 26, 2015

SSM advances to their 3rd-straight quarterfinals appearance.

Westfield, IN- Shattuck-St. Mary’s routed Oakwood SC in their third and final game of the Academy Playoffs, scoring four goals on their way to a 4-0 win. With the win, SSM qualifies for the quarterfinal round where they will face off against the eight best teams in the nation.

Jake Scheper ’15 gave SSM an early lead scoring at the 24-minute mark. Six minutes later, Akeem Ward ’14 gave the Sabres a two-goal cushion. Just five minutes before halftime, Ward played a give and go with Scheper at the top of the box and finished to give him his second goal of the game. Shattuck-St. Mary’s went in to half with a 3-0 lead.

Right out of the break, SSM picked up where they left off as Lesley Nchanji ’15 scored his second goal of the tournament, pushing the Sabres’ lead to 4-0.

Shattuck-St. Mary’s becomes just the fourth U17/18 club in Development Academy history to make three consecutive quarterfinal appearances and the first club not affiliated with a professional organization to do so. The win also puts Shattuck-St. Mary’s in the top five for most quarterfinals appearances ever with three, despite only playing in the league for five years.

Shattuck-St. Mary’s will travel to Casa Grande, AZ to face Real Salt Lake Academy on July 7 with the winner advancing to the final four.
