Class of 2016

August 31, 2015

It’s Wednesday, and registration for returning students has begun. As members of the Class of 2016 amble towards the steps of Johnson Armory, a phrase is repeated more often than any other: “I can’t believe I’m a senior; I don’t feel like a senior.”

It’s Friday afternoon and we are in the midst of a run through of 15 minute classes to help orient new students to the Upper School. During the “lunch” periods, the Red Carpet is overflowing with seniors, staking out their spot for the year in this senior-only area. Whatever concerns or worries they might have had earlier in the week about filling the shoes of those who came before them seems to have vanished for now- good for them!

Of course being a senior means more than being permitted to step on the Red Carpet. It means leading by example, speaking up when needed, and serving as a positive role model for the younger students. It means accepting the responsibilities of young adulthood even while enjoying some new found freedom.

Congratulations to the Class of 2016 for making it this far, to the threshold of your senior year. A wonderful year awaits you, your leadership is needed, and we all are anxious to see what you will accomplish in the coming months.
