Shattuck-St. Mary’s weCreate Center and Honors Program were pleased to host a special “Lunch and Learn” event on Friday, September 16 featuring Chris DeSalvo, who addressed a contingent of students and staff members on “how to make it as an independent app designer and programmer.”
DeSalvo is the founder and CEO of Pomegranate Apps and the creator of the MathStudio app, which enables users to perform advanced computations and visualizations.
DeSalvo’s career path as an app designer was a fascinating one. He never formally studied either coding or business, rather, he began as a musician, trained in classical Indian Sitar and the jazz guitar. He learned coding and the app business on his own, fell in love with both, and was very quickly able to make a living from these skills. In his presentation at the weCreate Center, DeSalvo explained how others can do what he did, by learning the right coding languages and marketing good app ideas.
