The Shattuck-St. Mary’s community welcomed their favorite four-legged friends during the annual Blessing of the Animals Ceremony on Tuesday, October 4. Students, faculty, and staff members gathered in the Upper School Gymnasium on a rainy morning for Tuesday’s Chapel, accompanied by a host of dogs, cats, and even a pet turtle.
Following a short program and prayer, Rev. Colin Snow Maltbie made his way through the Gym and blessed each attending animal. Many in attendance who were unable to physically bring their pets to Chapel brought photographs of their furry friends for the blessing ceremony. The ceremony also happened to coincide with World Animal Day, an international social movement with the mission of raising the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe.
