ScholarShift Stories: Foundations of Financial Fitness

November 02, 2016

Students receive crash course on key tenants of personal finance during module.

Personal finance management is a life skill all of us need to have as responsible adults. Shattuck-St. Mary’s students had the opportunity to receive a crash course on the subject from an industry professional as part of a three-session Foundations of Financial Fitness ScholarShift module on October 24, 26 and 28.

Guided by the expertise of Matt Morehead, Integrated Wealth Advisor for Carlson Capital, students learned how to incorporate basic personal finance building blocks during the six-hour module. Students gathered at The Inn and learned specific strategies to help them build a savings account, avoid crippling debt, and build solid credit among other course topics.

The main purpose of the sessions was to empower participating students and equip them with the knowledge and tools they need to find financial stability as they exit SSM and enter the world as independent young adults.
