Four SSM Students Advance in National History Day Competition

Middle School students to compete in state competition on April 29 at the University of Minnesota.

Congratulations to four Shattuck-St. Mary’s Middle School students who advanced to the state National History Day competition, which will take place on Saturday, April 29 at the University of Minnesota.

Participating students fielded questions and presented their work related to this year’s theme of “Taking a Stand in History” to faculty judges during an exhibition on February 16. As a result of their exemplary work, the following students will compete at the state competition.

  • Lily Chappell ’22- “Nellie Bly’s Undercover Investigation in a Mental Hospital” (website)
  • Aaron Sawicki ’23- “The Hormel P-9 Strike” (exhibit)
  • Adalyn Nienhaus ’22- “Alice Paul’s White House Picket” (exhibit)
  • Suzannah Sanders Burdis ’22- “Edward Coles, Anti-Slavery Advocate” (performance)
