Highlighted by a visit from the Bemidji Choir and voice lessons from Dr. Wendy-Zaro-Mullins, associate professor of voice at the University of Minnesota, members of the SSM Vocal Performance Program Center of Excellence enjoyed a weekend of music on March 31 and April 1.
On Friday, the Bemidji Choir visited SSM as part of their tour of southern Minnesota. The group performed during a morning session in the Chapel for VPP and community members, and Bemidji Choir Director Dr. Dwight Jilek worked with SSM singers on one of their choral songs. Later that afternoon, VPP students were joined by Dr. Zaro-Mullins, who led a class in the Music Suite.
Dr. Zaro-Mullins was also the featured guest for Vocal Day 2017 on Saturday, April 1. Members of VPP were joined by area vocalists for a fantastic day of music and learning, which included mini-voice lessons, master classes, and help sessions taught by Dr. Zaro-Mullins and Dr. Jennifer Olson, a pop-up choir performance helmed by VPP Director Peter Schleif, and a comprehensive closing recital in the Newhall Auditorium.
