Before arriving at Shattuck-St. Mary’s, Mr. and Mrs. Moyer both worked at schools in Philadelphia where they met in 2010. Mr. Moyer was a director at ITT Tech and Mrs. Moyer was a teacher at Penn Charter while also working towards her graduate degree. They married in 2012 and welcomed their first child Daniel in 2013. After the birth of their second child, Megan, in 2015, the couple decided to make the move back to Mrs. Moyer’s home state of Minnesota. Having played against SSM in her own high school years, Mrs. Moyer was somewhat familiar with the school when she decided to accept a teaching job here in 2015.
When asked about their big move to the Midwest, Mrs. Moyer fondly remembers the day she and her husband moved into their new home in Breck Dorm. Laughing, she remembers how her husband had a job interview that day and, unable to pack his suit away in a box, Mr. Moyer had to haul it with him through the chaos of all the airports and airplanes to their new home in Breck to have it ready for his interview. In the fall of 2015, the couple began their first school year working at SSM. Mrs. Moyer is an economics and history teacher, and Mr. Moyer is the Director of Financial Aid and Assistant Director of Enrollment. The couple joke that many people had a hard time understanding Mr. Moyer’s thick Philly accent that first year.
Just last April, the Moyers welcomed their third child, Joseph, to the family who was born during the 2016-17 SSM baby boom. While it can feel slightly overwhelming raising children in the public eye of the school community, the Moyers’ appreciation for campus life has only grown over the years. “SSM is a close-knit community that provides a welcoming and nurturing home to students and faculty alike. Living on campus has given us the opportunity to not only form close relationships with students but has allowed us to foster friendships with some of the greatest people we have ever known,” Mrs. Moyer said. One word they would use to describe the Shattuck “All In” lifestyle, is gratifying. The Moyers have really enjoyed getting to know students on a deeper level and watching them grow and succeed. To them, that level of closeness with students and the relationships students have with their own children is what makes their campus life such a gratifying experience. “The fact that we are not only allowed but encouraged to bring our children to work functions such as cookouts, concerts, and sporting events truly make this a family experience, one that we deeply appreciate.”
The Moyer family now enjoys their roomy home in SSM’s newly built Kim Hall, where they continue to raise their three beautiful children.
