SSM Recognizes Veterans Day

Ceremony honoring veterans takes place during community period.

Shattuck-St. Mary’s held a special ceremony in remembrance of Veterans Day during community period on Monday, November 13.

Led by Director of Enrollment Management and veteran Kelly DeShane, the assembly featured background on the origin of the holiday, an appearance by the Wooden Soldiers, a beautiful singing of the National Anthem by Vocal Performance Center of Excellence member Lisa Lilyerd ’19, and the reading of the names of U.S. military members who have lost their lives since Veterans Day 2016.

Veterans Day is an official U.S. public holiday observed annually on November 11 that honors all who have served in the United States Armed Forces, and coincides with other holidays around the world that celebrate the anniversary of the end of World War I.

The ceremony concluded with the playing of “Taps,” along with general announcements.
