University of Minnesota lecture weighs the environmental impact of antibiotics.

BioScience Center of Excellence students attended a lecture presented by Dr. Martin Blaser entitled “The Dark Side of Antibiotics” at the University of Minnesota on Wednesday, February 7.

The lecture examined how antibiotic use—in the clinic, the farm, fisheries, and the home—have impacted our ecosystems over the last 75 years.

Prior to the lecture, BioScience students also had the opportunity to engage in a Skype session with Dr. Blaser on Monday ahead of his campus presentation.

The presentation is part of the Spring 2018 Lecture Series “Antibiotic Resistance: Policy Challenges and Solutions,” hosted by the University of Minnesota’s Consortium on Law and Values. Dr. Blaser is the Singer Professor of Translational Medicine, Professor of Microbiology, and directs the Human Microbiome Program at the New York University (NYU) School of Medicine.
