ScholarShift Stories: Timberwolves and Lynx Business Club Day

Students get an inside look at how professional sports teams are marketed and run during Target Center visit.

On Wednesday, February 14, 13 students attended a module at the Target Center as part of the 2018 Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx Business Day.

Participating students heard from several speakers, including the Timberwolves CEO, Director of Marketing, Director of Sales, VP of Human Resources, Director of Live Programming and Entertainment, Director of Player Programs, the Wolves Mascot “Crunch,” and Minnesota Lynx forward Rebekkah Brunson.

SSM history teacher and basketball coach Lee Miller led the module. The big takeaway was advice about how to get a job in the world of sports as well as how to gain experience through internships and make a strong first impression.

Students also saw how analytics were used in decision making, regarding not only sales and marketing, but fan experiences as well. Several members of the SSM basketball team were in attendance.
