Shattuck St. Mary’s to Unite Academic Classes on One Campus

The change reflects a broader effort to strengthen community connections and create a more unified academic experience for students and faculty. By consolidating classes, students will benefit from increased access to shared resources, more opportunities for collaboration across grade levels, and a more cohesive daily schedule.

“This move is about bringing our students and faculty into closer daily connection,” said Associate Head of School Stephanie Vagle. “When people share space, they share ideas, relationships deepen, and the learning experience becomes more cohesive across the school.”

The shift also includes updates to residential life. St. Mary's Hall will transition into a co-educational dorm for students in grades 6–9, with boys housed on the south side and girls on the north. In addition, the Breck and Clapp dorms, currently used as boys dorms, will become residential spaces for 10th and 11th grade girls, allowing all 10th–12th grade students to be housed on the main campus.

Many of the necessary space updates and renovations are already underway as the school prepares for the transition.

“As we move forward, these renovations allow us to modernize our older spaces to meet the needs of our current students,” said Head of School Matt Cavellier. “These updates are part of a strategic vision to ensure our facilities match the high quality of our programs.
