About the Program

Shattuck-St. Mary’s is excited to welcome rising 7th–9th grade students for a hands-on journey into science, technology, engineering, and medicine. During the STEM Exploration Camp, students live and learn on our historic campus while engaging in BioScience labs, engineering challenges, flight simulation, and digital innovation projects.

Campers work side-by-side with a medical doctor, professional engineers, a pilot, and innovation specialists in state-of-the-art spaces, developing both technical skills and creative confidence.

Whether choosing a one-week foundations session or staying for two weeks to complete advanced projects and a capstone showcase, participants will build lasting friendships, explore new ideas, and experience life as part of the SSM community.

Program Elements
BioScience

Step into the lab and explore human biology, microbiology, and DNA with SSM faculty, including an medical doctor and a PhD biologist. Work through real-world case challenges, practice lab techniques, and debate big questions in medicine and ethics.

Engineering & Robotics

Take on design challenges that stretch your creativity. Build and test structures, solve problems under pressure, and in week two, design and code robots and drones to complete missions.

Flight Simulation

Learn how airplanes fly and practice in SSM’s flight simulators. Log simulator hours, then plan and carry out cross-country flights as you test your skills.

Innovation Lab

Bring your ideas to life in SSM’s weCreate® Center. Try coding, 3D printing, and app prototyping as you learn how engineers and designers turn ideas into working models.

Team-Building & Recreation

Students will take part in a variety of on- and off-campus activities designed to build community and broaden their perspectives. From exploring local culture and recreation to participating in group outings and shared experiences, they’ll discover new places, strengthen friendships, and gain a deeper appreciation for the world around them.

Capstone Showcase

At the end of camp, families are invited to our STEM Expo where students present their projects, share discoveries, and celebrate achievements.
